Chris Rhodes can guide you on an experience to watch birds in many different habitats that Flinders Island has to offer from coastal beaches, to temperate rain forest. Having live on Flinders Island and grown up with an appreciation of the natural environment you will be in the best hands to discover the diversity that Flinders Island has to offer. There are over 150 different species of birds in the Furneaux group ranging from Wedge Tailed Eagles (our largest birds) to the Tasmanian Thornbill (our smallest).
Some of the more interesting times of the year revolve around migrations of birds to and from Tasmania to the mainland and the northern hemisphere.
Some of these are:
Muttonbirds Short Tailed Shearwaters return to the Furneaux Group to breed every summer arriving in November and the young leaving at the end of April.
Swift Parrots feed on flowering trees on there way to breed in Tasmania.
Waders from the Northern Hemisphere stop over on the beaches and lagoons around the Island.
Brown Hawks congregate in large groups as they migrate to the mainland.
Other spectacular events are the breeding season of many species that breed on the Island.

Packages can be organised for small or larger groups from wherever you live, including airfares accommodation, meals and guided tours.
